General protection fault! Hello Mozart, sorry you are having trouble.

Could you please send the set to bugs@muvizu.com so that our developers can have a look at it?

Take care,
-Jim.

LAG PROBLEMS. Need help quick! Hi rapotrmarlins,

Muvizu is a very resource-intensive application so if you are running a lot of background programmes at the same time you may suffer a drop in performance, so I would recommend closing all unnecessary programmes while running Muvizu - especially on older PCs.

If you have Windows 7 or Vista closing Aero and the Side Bar can also increase performance:

Close Side Bar:
The following tutorial is pretty easy to follow:
http://www.tutorialized.com/view/tutorial/How-to-close-or-exit-Sidebar-in-Windows-Vista-%7BTutorial-for-beginners%7D/27223

Disable Windows Aero:
This is also a pretty decent tutorial:
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/disable-aero-on-windows-vista/

Updating your Graphics card drivers to the latest version can also increase performance:

You can get the latest NVIDIA drivers from:
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

You can also lower the resolution that Muvizu is running at by going to the "Prefs" menu in Muvizu - generally the lower the resolution the faster Muvizu will run.

You can also disable lighting by pressing F2, but you will probably want to turn it back on using F3 when you are creating your lights.

There are also some programmes which can boost your PCs performance - the "Resources" section has a thread on them which can be found at:

http://www.muvizu.com/forum/topic463-performance-increase-programmes.aspx

Take care,
-Jim.

A Spoof of a Spoof? I was looking for some inspiration for my next movie when I found this video:

It's Airplane! edited to form a serious trailer, and I think the guy did a great job.

It did make me think though - if you make a spoof movie serious does that make it a spoof of a spoof - kind of like a double negative being positive?

Military rank signs Hello again,

I like the idea of a badge that you can add your own image to - you could use PhotoShop, Gimp or even Paint to create your name tag and then put that onto the badge. It would be the same as the custom images for backdrops and character's chests.

That way you can create whatever you want - any picture, any language.

The attachments are all made by our art team - generally using Maya - there is currently no way for users to import character attachments into Muvizu, but depending on the success of object importing it may be something that is looked at in the future.

Take care,
-Jim.

Military rank signs Hi again,

I have just been reminded that you can put images onto the "Button Badge" - although I do agree that a rectangular nametag like the one here would be pretty cool:

Ability to change mouse movement. Hi TheCursedJester,

I have passed your suggestion on - the devs are always looking for ways to improve the control scheme.

I quite like the idea of clicking on the world to pan and rotate - it would be similar to some 3D modelling packages.

Thanks for your suggestion - please keep 'em coming!

Take care,
-Jim.

Error Trying to Import .wav file Hello Darren,

This has been known to happen with some MP3s and .wav files - but it has been a bit unpredictable.

Could you send it to bugs@muvizu.com along with a brief message (a copy of your forum post would be great).

What I would suggest is downloading Audacity and use it to open then save your .wav file - most of the people in the office use Audacity so hopefully it should work.

You can get it from:
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/windows

Please let us know how you get on.

Take care,
-Jim.

Military rank signs Hi Sjefen,

You are already helping by using Muvizu and reporting these issues - thanks for offering though .

This section of the forum is dedicated to suggestions - so feel free to ask for as many new features as you can think of - obviously I cannot promise that they will be put in. I have passed on your idea for a name badge - I don't think it has been suggested before.

The community is very active, and the other users are very knowledgeable and friendly so there is no need to be nervous.

Thanks again.
Take care,
Jim.

Military rank signs Hi Sjefen,

Thanks for reporting this - you are correct - the "pointy end" should be at the character's neck.

The bug has been passed on along with your suggestion to add the ability to put decals on the epaulettes.

Take care,
-Jim.

Animatable objects-props glasgowjim wrote:
Hi Toonarama,

The devs are looking into the possibility of having things like car wheels moving etc. but the basic object movement is their primary focus. I have to admit that doors opening and closing would be pretty cool though.

What you could do is import a door frame and door - this would allow you to animate the door opening/closing while the frame remains in the same place. (This is something that I am going to try as soon as moving objects are available for testing.)

Take care,
-Jim.

Hi folks,

The last of the necessary features have been added to the in-house build and I have just given them a go: I can confirm that you will be able open doors in the release scheduled for the beginning of November.

So, looks like there will be no more need for after-effects shenanigans to have doors opening and closing .

Favourite ever cartoon? I had every type of cartoon in mind, but let's face it - the cartoons we see as children are the ones that stay with us.

Ooh, just remembered - the Sylvester/Hoppity cartoons where Sylvesters son keeps putting a bag over his head as he is ashamed that his dad keeps on getting beaten up by mice!

Favourite ever cartoon? Just wondering what everyone's favourite cartoon is?

Personally I love the Duck Season/Wabbit Season/Elmer Season Looney Toons short, but in terms of the one that made me laugh the most it has to be Pixar's "For the Birds"

Transparent Pics, Hi idealess,

If you use Gimp or Photoshop you can create a custom backdrop picture with transparent areas - if you save it as a .png file those areas will remain transparent when you load the picture onto a backdrop in Muvizu.

Just remembered that Emily made a tutorial for it:

Stack Building Segments? Hi inlimbo,

It's pretty difficult - it takes a lot of patience to get them to align 100% - what I tend to do is make sure that the sections that I am recording are aligned properly (i.e. if the front looks good I don't care what the back looks like).

I suggested adding snapping a little while ago, it's not currently planned but I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Take care,
-Jim.

Muvizu Update Error Hi jamspencer,

What stage does it get to? Does it say "Downloading XXXX" or "Unzipping XXXX" when that error comes up? It happened with me on my home PC because I didn't have enough Hard Disk space, if that's any help.

Take care,
-Jim.

How do I use Muvizu on a Mac? The Bill gates bit made me laugh....

Precision Placement of Animations, and blends Hi inlimbo,

The animation functionality is being worked on at the moment - separating movement/locomotion and animation should be done by the next release.

Editing the animations start time can already be done on the timeline - the ability to set specific finish times/durations is being looked at, along with a few other tweaks, but I cannot say if it will make it into the next release.

Take care,
-Jim.

Hi Jim/All!

Thanks, Jim, for the good wishes! So, tried emulating Pixel Shader 2.0 in software with SwiftShader...yikes! Muvizu finally loaded, but screen updated once every 3 - 5 seconds... Interface looks nice, though!

Hello Marvin,

0.2-0.3 fps - ouch - it was worth a try, but you could always make a stop-motion flick . Neill and Alan will be pleased about the interface!

I have never used SwiftShader - is it any good?

Error saving set file Hi John,

Is it happening with all changes, or just some of them (e.g. does editing SFX work but animation doesn't)?

It also looks like quite a complex set - when you view the scene window what percentage memory use is shown?

Also, could you please send one of your sets to bugs@muvizu.com so that we can have a look at it? The Devs can probably find out the exact error pretty quickly.

Take care,
-Jim.

Edit - Oops, Neil beat me to it.....
