Hi All,
If your into scriptwriting there is a free downloadable application called CELTX. This produces 'industry acceptable' format for scripts. I've used this for Audio visual productions. Once the script has been finished you can change the format to Audio, Film, comic book, book, audio visual and others with a pdf export as well. Worth a look if you have time. There is also a script collaboration mode called CELTX STUDIO, with the facility for several contributiors to work on same script. This has a small charge for hosting but might be worth investigating . Just a thought.
Regards

John

It'd be best to have as many people on board as possible, though. Nazis could be done not offensively, if that's the objection (though I personally like edgy comedy). If it's just that the Nazis are old hat, then fine. I wouldn't mind scrapping the Nazi element (much as I like 'Back to the Fuhrer' as a title), but I like the secret agent element, as it's quite ripe for parody. If not Nazis, what other time travel stories could we do?

Message from Back_to_the_Fuhrer

Here's a suggestion for how the first scene might go. Feel free to comment. Any criticism will be much appreciated, even if followed swiftly by a bombardment of death threats.

Back to the Führer

Scene One
(A Nazi general is walking purposefully through the corridors of Hitler’s bunker. He goes through a large pair of double doors into Hitler’s office. Hitler is sitting at his desk. Behind him is a large swastika-adorned flag. On the walls on either side are a picture of Hitler and Stalin smiling together with ‘Me and Joe ‘39’ written on it, a newspaper clipping saying ‘Hitler approval ratings 112% for 3rd year running’ and a graph with ‘Number of Jews’ plotted over ‘Baby deaths’, the line going sharply downwards).
General (gently and anxiously): Mein Führer, word has just reached us that General Steiner has been unable to mobilise troops.
(Pause).
He will not be able to come to Berlin’s rescue.
(Pause).
Hitler (quietly, shocked): How long... until Berlin is encircled?
General: It will be... several days at most, Mein Führer.
(Pause).
Hitler (in a hollow voice, eyes wide): Several days... all is lost... Germany will fall.
(Pause).
Hitler: Goodbye, cruel world.
(He reaches for a gun on his table).
General (hurriedly): Wait, Mein Führer! All is not lost just yet! There is one thing which may be able to save Germany.
Hitler (desperately): Go on.
General: Admittedly, it’s a last resort, and might well not work...
Hitler (reaching for the gun): Goodbye, cruel world...
General (hurriedly): ...but it could work! It could!
Hitler (pausing over the gun): What is it, then?
General: A secret project upon which the military has been working for ten years. Germany’s finest scientific minds have been recruited to assist in its development, as well as Germany’s finest mime artist... not quite sure why.
Hitler (building in anger): Wait. So you are telling me that there has been a project which could win us the war under development for ten whole years and nobody thought to tell me?
(Pause. He becomes sad).
Hitler (his voice cracking): That’s so mean.
(He reaches for the gun).
General (with a hint of irritation): Mein Führer, we considered it necessary that you have plausible deniability. Had you been captured by the enemy, the whole project, and with it the future of the Third Reich, could have been compromised.
(Pause).
Hitler: What an awful thought.
(He reaches for the gun. The general slams his hand on Hitler’s).
General: Stop it!
Hitler (leaning back in his chair): Sorry, I get emotional sometimes. Very well. Show it to me.
(It cuts to Hitler and the general walking up to a large metal door, at either side of which is an armed guard).
Guard: Stop. Pass code?
General: Oh... um... it’s on the tip of my tongue...
(He clicks his fingers, trying to remember. The other guard flaps his arms behind the first guard’s back).
General: That’s it! Blackbird!
(The guard pushes a button and the door slides open. Hitler and the general go in).
General: Welcome, Mein Führer, to Operation Indigo Sword of Soul-Tearing Hellfire and the Blood-soaked Apocalypse.
(It zooms out to show them in a vast room with a large number of scientists scurrying around a large object with a cloth draped over it. A scientist approaches).
General: This is Dr. Engel Grinder, the scientific genius who is known at Belsen as ‘The Angel of Doom’.
(Dr. Grinder turns round to reveal that he has ‘The Angel of Doom’ written on his back).
Grinder: Ta-dah!
General (impatiently, flatly): Very nice.
(A mime artist walks up, salutes, and starts doing the glass box actions).
General: And this is Gotthold Ovitt, Germany’s greatest mime artist.
Hitler: What’s he saying?
General: It’s probably ‘Hail the motherland.’
Grinder: No, he’s pretending to be stuck in a glass box.
General: Oh, I see.
Grinder: Anyhow, Mein Führer, what you are about to see is a device which, if all goes to plan, could well transform the fortunes of the Third Reich. Operation Indigo Sword of Soul-Tearing Hellfire and the Blood-soaked Apocalypse is, I believe, our last hope.
Hitler: Its name’s a bit overdone, isn’t it?
General: Told you, Engel.
Grinder: Well, it’s better than your idea, with that poncey foreign word.
General: Blitzkrieg.
Grinder: That’s the one.
General: Enough of this. Unveil the device!
(Several scientists rush round, and the cloth is pulled off, unveiling a Wells-esque time machine).
General: Behold: the world’s first and only... time machine!
(Sinister music plays, as the camera zooms in to the time machine).

Ok, now we have decided on the Title and story I just want give my outline of the story so far so stay with me
Neville Chamberlain's famous Paper of peace cock up story to start with.
Chamberlain can't live with this, so teams up with Turin to build a time machine. Chamberlain is instructed by Churchill and Roose to go Back in Time to stop Hitler's mum and Dad from getting together.
Chamberlain Travels back to the 1885 in the Time machine, but unknown to him drops his famous piece of paper when he arrives, sparking the Nazis to know the Allies weakness in the future resulting in Hitler taking over the world with devastating technology ( TERMINATOR THEME )......
So, because of Chamberlains double mishap, the Nazis send a Terminator Back to Eliminate Churchills Mother or farther ( I was thinking A Hitler or Himmler model Terminator Model 1945 ?)
In desperation, the allies in the future send a protector ( A Historical Hero?, Robin Hood ? ) Who warns him about the danger of the terminators, and the future!! but apart from that he is as much use as a chocolate Teapot!! , so later on they send back a robot Churchhill - ( Hitler Robot vs Churchill Robot, say no more )
In the meantime, Chamberlain breaks up the courtship of Hitlers parants to be, and discovers he has lost his
famous piece of paper.
Robot Churchill turns up telling him to find that paper and to get Hitler parents back together again to stop Joseph Stalin from taking over the World.
This task is now difficult because Hitlers mum has taken a shine to Neville!
even worse, he is told by Einsteins dad the only way to produce the power to get him back is by Channelling a Large Methane Explosion, which they do by a future event , maybe a farmyard cow hut explosion ? )
After a lot of comical mayhem, and a one night stand with Dame Vera Lynns mum he eventually gets back to the future...........
All great, until a radio broadcasts that Great Britain is surrendering to germany.
You see, our Dame Vera Lynn does not exist..... thanks to Chamberlain not keeping his pants on, on that one night stand in the past which has left our brave troops limp without there famous girl singer.
just before the end Turin and Stephen Hawkings turn up in the time machine warning him about his distant cousin Brian Cox making a Black Hole with the Hadron Collider....... THE END

Just a little starter, any ideas?
edited by artpen on 25/05/2011

Essentially, the premise is this: the Nazis discover the secret of time travel and use it to go back and change history, so that they can rule the world. Discovering this, the British government, which also discovers time travel (perhaps through stealing the technology, the details are still a bit fuzzy in my head), launches a counter-offensive, going back to try to counter-act what the Nazis have done. This may involve things like seducing Hitler's mother to stop his conception. It would riff on all sorts of franchises and genres, such as James Bond, Indiana Jones, The Terminator and various war movies, as well as poking fun at some aspects of contemporary Britain, such as the Royal Family. I have a few jokes in mind, but it's very much up-in-the-air at the moment.

This is very interesting - count me in.

Just finishing my Christmas based movie which will take a few weeks (Mmmm - June, the perfect time to evoke that festive feeling).

I would suggest small teams of 2-3 willing individuals on each task (if there's enough)- that way it won't get too time onerous.

I'm quite excited.

I would be happy to help out and I like the idea of a collaboration as long as the timescales are not too challenging. Unfortunately I think the majority of us have jobs and families that occasionally need attending to.
I think the way Dreeko has split the tasks seems very logical and could work, but I think that someone will need to "take the lead" so that everyone knows what they are doing and keeps the project moving along.

In doing so I think I have managed steer myself away from my "one man band" approach to making a movie. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy having full control over the clips that I make on my own, but sharing the process has given me the opportunity to see how other minds tick when confronted with the same idea.

Breaking down the different processes of making a Muvizu movie into really specific tasks that can be shared out to others is an interesting approach which hasn't really been explored yet as far as I know, but would be a great project to be part of.

The different tasks as I see them are...

The general story outline
The script
The audio (music and voices)
Set creation
Lighting
Object creation
Character creation
Character direction/movement
Head and eyes direction
Camera direction/movement
and finally editing

Not everyone is good at, or enjoys the above steps so why not enter into a project where you can do the task that is your strength and allow others to step into the waters which you sometime find to deep.

thoughts?

cheers

D

For quite a few years I've been a big fan of the collaborative filmmaking site http://www.wreckamovie.com, which sprang from the success of the Star Wreck projects (see https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Star_Wreck:_In_the_Pirkinning).

The minds behind this are quite serious about their intentions to disrupt the cosy and closed-off world of filmmaking, stick two fingers up at the industry fat-cats and smash their corrupt monopolies. Good for them, I reckon.

One wreckamovie project I've been following in particular is Iron Sky, a Nazis-in-space black comedy which, now in production, is currently making waves in Cannes. These guys have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars in funding via their fanbase and other crowdsourced initiatives. They've just released a video explaining their - proven - model of collaborative funding and filmmaking, which is well worth watching:
"Iron Sky - Producing with the Audience"

You may watch teasers, trailers and find out more about the project on the Iron Sky site: http://www.ironsky.net/

This is the Iron Sky presence at wreckamovie - http://www.wreckamovie.com/ironsky - which is a fascinating record of the project from inception, calls for contributions/collaborators/suggestions and all the discussions and information that informed this enterprise.

No, Muvizu has nothing to do with wreckamovie and nothing to do with Iron Sky, but we are keen to encourage user collaboration and what these guys are doing deserves to be talked about, supported, emulated and recognised for the groundbreaking achievement it is.

They may establish a new, global industry model that will last a thousand years ...
edited by pyrrho on 18/05/2011
