After checking Vegas 8 and 9 it appears that they are both fine - it was the Cineform HD codec that was bundled with 7 that was causing Richard's problem.

I am having a quick look at the various versions of Vegas and the updated version of Muvizu that has some codec fixes in it, just to see if the codec fixes work with Vegas 7, 8 and 9.

It never hurts to know how repeatable a crash is, and if it manifests in different ways .

I will let you know what happens with Vegas 8.

I saw that post about Sony Vegas 7 and that he said, IIRC, that his friend had a later version of Sony Vegas installed and Muvizu worked OK with the later version of Vegas installed.
I have Sony Vegas 8 installed (and other Sony stuff, Ulead stuff, Pinnacle, Adobe, etc, etc) on the original boot but I don't want to remove it, or the other stuff, as it will be a pain-in-the-ass to have to reinstall it/them with all the plugins & settings too - not that creating a dual boot system wasn't a time consuming process

I am glad you got it working, but obviously we would prefer it if people didn't have to reinstall Windows :/.

There was another user who told us this morning that "Sony Vegas 7" was causing him problems - do you have that installed on your original boot?

-Jim.]]> Mon, 16 Aug 2010 11:50:05 GMT http://www.muvizu.com/Forum/topic290-unable-to-make-video--the-file-is-locked-.aspx To get Muvizu to make a movie I did a complete reinstall of Windows (as a dual boot) with nothing but the essentials, such as Graphics Drivers, Windows Updates, etc. Muvizu then worked just fine - so it looks like something I've installed on my PC is clashing with Muvizu.
No other video/audio drivers were installed, only the default ones that came with the above installation.
So, currently, if I need to make a movie I've to reboot to the basic Muvizu Windows installation - it's a bit of a muddle, but a workaround for now.

FYI: PC Configuration (both working & non-working with Muvizu).

OS: Windows XP Pro 32bit with SP3 and all latest Windows updates.
Graphics: Radeon HD5770 with 1Gig RAM, 875Mhz (overclocked to 950Mhz) with Version 10.7 drivers.
RAM: 4Gig.
CPU: Intel Quad Core Q6600 2.4GHz (overclocked to 3.3GHz).

The possible failures according to the MSDN docs are filetype does not have a handler (which since it will be AVI I would doubt very much), file not writable or out of memory.

We'll look into it further - but it's a strange one.

The .set file saves OK and I can double click on a saved .set file and Muvizu opens it up - no problem.
I've played around with un/re/installing Muvizu (to default & custom locations), DirectX, .Net 3.4 & 4, the C++2005 stuff, etc but still no joy.

It might sound a bit daft, but did you try simply saving the video file under a different name?

Just noticed that the 'Upload to Youtube' option is greyed out until the failed 'Make Video' option is completed, but I guess this
is why the Youtube error is displayed as the Movie is not created.
Tried all the resolutions/codecs as shown in picture below (with various mixes of resolutions & codecs) - no joy.
The error message is displayed after trying to save the Movie.

This has me completely stumped - I won't be able to speak with the Devs until tomorrow morning, but hopefully they will be able to figure it out.

That error can come up when another person or another programme is using the directory you wish to save to, but the fact it is happening in multiple locations makes this less likely.

Two quick questions though - are there multiple people logged into the PC? Is the Hard Drive shared with other computers on the network?

There is nothing that "jumps out" from the log file, so the only thing that I can suggest is uninstalling any existing codec packs that you have and installing the K-Lite Full codec pack.

This should give you the most compatibility with Muvizu, but I can't say how it would affect other software and, of course, any 3rd party software is used at your own risk.

I will be talking to the Devs about this tomorrow morning as well, so you might want to wait until after I have done so.

Normally at least one codec works, so this might require a bit more investigation; could you please tell me if there is a log and .dmp file present in your Muvizu directory?

The directory that logs are in is located at C:\Program Files\Muvizu\MuvizuGame\Logs

If one has been generated it might shed some more light on the situation.

I tried all the codecs and different resolutions and all gave the same error.
In another post someone suggested installing K-Lite codec pack to fix a video making error, but this did not help here.

Does the error come up as soon as you click on "Make Video" on the menu bar or after you have selected a Resolution and Codec?

Also, when I try to upload to youtube the following error is given and then Muvizu closes down.
