MarkWaldo

Well thank you very much for your nice comments on the animation and also my music.
As for hearing more music? Oh yeah I have a lot more music, over 200 songs so I'll be back.
I don't mind and actually like honesty so I take all comments in as a learning process because it is. So it's all cool with me.
If any of you are curious about my music feel free to check out this site. I do all kinds.

http://www.reverbnation.com/stinginsteve?profile_view_source=header_icon_nav

As opposed to the experts saying how harsh the shadows are and other nitpicky stuff, I think they would complain about the art masters such as Van Gough or Monet, giving them suggestions how to improve their work. I personally very much enjoyed the video. To me, the shadows added starkness to the scene. My first and only video so far required me to learn as I developed it as to character actions and movement. It also took me many hours to just get the scenery done. The script took me days. After a month now, there have been less than 50 views on youtube. No one ever commented on my video. It could be because of the subject matter.
The important thing about your video is your content. I really enjoyed how you brought the listener in closer and closer by edging him on. That really made it personal to me.
I especially liked the song. I know good musical composition when I hear it, and your piece is excellent. As everyone says, its the story that makes a good video. To me its the content, music, and how you artistically brought everything together. The music was the story.
You did an excellent job and I would love to hear more music like that and as you continue developing your animation skills, even your projects will excel as well.

Hi UL
Yep, you'll get to know me and I'm very easy going. I've been writing music for most of my life but now I'm disabled from having Lyme Disease for over 20 years before they found it so I can't play out anymore. I wanted a You Tube presence and have been looking for animators for a long time. When I couldn't find any I did what I aways do and started doing it myself.
Yeah those shadows are all I see now when I watch the vid but it's a good lesson learned. I have the all up on high I think.
The next one I do will have my music but will be mostly a story and probably on a dark street.
Thank you again for commenting and I promise I'll never yell at you.

Steve

I get scared I hate being yelled at so I only talk about the positive stuff. I dont want to hurt people's feelings. I left out many things because I dont know you and how you might react

but the big thing I noticed (technically) was the shadows from things you need to turn off multiple shadows and only leave the big ones like one per building and your characters and the plants. The rest.. I am not a music video fan there has to be something else to it. I did like the camera concept at the beginning thout as i said

edit: I noticed that ziggy mentiond that as i read back.
edited by urbanlamb on 17/05/2014

Hi Ziggy
No I won't get offended, I'm a Musician so I get a lot of feedback, good and bad.
Thanks for those tips and yes I had the shading all the way up. I did use three cameras but I couldn't figure how to make them switch slower. I know what you mean on the boring part but it was all I could come up with for that song right now anyhow.
Thanks very much for commenting. I hope to improve with time.

Steve

If you ask for feedback, and mean it, you'll get it
I didn't respond the first time I seen this because I didn't make it past half way. It's practically just one shot, nothing happens. Personally, my reaction was indifference - it works for what it is, but no more. Having said all that, it is your first vid, so well done for completing it.

The thing that stood out for me was the shadows - I'm not sure which mode you're using them in, but the overlayed shadows on the ground are messy and distracting. You might have been better off just having the shadow of the building, and turn off Cast Shadows for the characters. Or use Custom Shadows, which lets you turn down the ambient light and let's you light the sets properly (if you set the lights to Cast Individual Shadows, rather then effecting the Ambient). That can get complicated to explain - it's best just to play around with them to find nice effects

Last comment (honest!) - you've got 4 cameras, so try to use them to create interest.

Hope this is useful feeback for you, and hope you understand I'm trying to be helpful, not critical.

A reply!
Thanks urbanlamb
Unfortunately pretty much everything I'll be doing will have my music in it. This one was a Band one but the next one I may do a story with. I'm still learning my way around and this is the first time I ever tried out animation. I like it though.... a lot!
Thanks for commenting, I appreciate it.
Steve
