This is turning out to be quite the discussion and build up to the actual event. It is funny that you should choose comedy, since you have a great sense of humor Clayster. I am not sure why that is funny, but it just seemed like something appropriate to add to the discussion.

MDW13 not being creative? Now that is not funny! I am surrounded by pure genius on this forum, and hope that I can steal some of everyone's creative abilities. I am wondering what will happen when the competitive mindsets kick in. The results should be amazing.

Get well soon Clayster, and we look forward to your event.
edited by Rocque on 14/06/2016

Hey everyone, sorry I been quiet, been feeling a little under the weather, I been thinking that maybe this should be an open competition, but still keep the main concept as a comedy, I think that this should be a little bit of a break from having a theme to go by an not worrying about what we want everyone to make, it seems that every competition that's been thrown out has a theme restriction, that's most of the reason why I never enter one, yea it's ok to use a theme every once in a while, but some times a concept is all you really need, concepts like comedy, drama, actions, thrillers, sci fi,and so on, I think this would give everyone more freedom to be able to use their imagination on their videos and make their own theme, but still keep in the assigned concept, and then throw in the rules, then again some of you may feel different about it so this is why I'm throwing this in here, to find out what you think, so if you think the theme idea is better then I'll stick with theme, I just want to get your take of the concept idea.
edited by clayster2012 on 13/06/2016
edited by clayster2012 on 13/06/2016

If I may make a suggestion about a subject for this competition? ..... No Subject!
It is too restricting. Most of the subjects suggested so far, are way away from my own personal interests.
Sure, everyone ought to make animations of their own favourite things, so I suggest that we all do our own thing
but with a common, agreed, TITLE.
I submit my titles - "What I did on my holidays"
Or - "The misprint"
Then we could all do our own thing, but only be restricted by the title.
Let's agree on a time for the Animation, say "Less than 2 minutes". This means not having to pad out an idea to fill the time.
Prizes ? I have no ideas about that, but I'm sure somebody will have great ones!

Is it okay if we have a date where entries are not accepted before, so I do not see the really good ones show up before I even start and decide not to enter since it would be too embarrassing? LOL. For example entries are accepted for a 24 hour period starting on the day before the last day?

assuming we went with the idea of Moguls running a series of challenges, and offering custom sets as a prize... here's an idea that would provide an incentive to participate in the challenge, and minimize dissatisfaction of people who didn't win:

1) Everybody who participates gets the set, and the set will NEVER be offered in the store... so the ONLY way to get it is to submit a video to the challenge

2) There could be a secondary "attaboy" award for best video... maybe having the video displayed somewhere with the other winners... but not a physical award, since that's what tends to make people feel slighted

or maybe everybody starts out with the set, and the challenge is to see what everybody comes up with

or whatever the mogul sponsoring the contest wants to do....

I like all of the ideas that have been set forth so far... all we need now is for one of the moguls to declare the rules of his/her challenge and say "ready...set...GO!!"
edited by PatMarrNC on 10/06/2016

I'd recommend staying clear of anything 'franchised' like Star Wars (lawyers never sleep). I'd keep the theme to one word, to make it as unrestricted as possible (like Crime, Tragedy, Journey, etc). Maybe make a list of a dozen theme words, and entrants have to combine two of them (so everyone doesn't go making the same movie). Set the minimum to 30 seconds, max 5 minutes (to keep the judges from losing the will to live through a 20 minute diatribe). Make the deadline 3 weeks from the date of announcement (more than enough for most, not enough for some, but it forces you to plan ahead). I like the idea of a 'lottery' prize as well as a 'merit' prize, it encourages more participation. Most of all though you shouldn't overthink it - it's all about having fun after all

How about if we combine forces in this way:

1) A series of challenges, and Clayster's is first

2) Each challenge will be defined and judged by a different mogul.

3) All the other moguls can participate in the challenges they don't judge... that way everybody gets to play

if different people define each challenge, that will make it interesting and will give a lot more people input without having to decide by vote or consensus, which really tends to slow any idea down to a crawl. One person can make decisions easily... get many people involved and no decision is possible.

If Muvizu gets involved and declares their own challenge, of course they can award whatever prize they want... but if the forum members do this without sponsorship, I kind of like Clayster's idea that a Mogul could offer a custom set as a prize. All the moguls tend to be really good at that.

Hey everyone, how would you feel about a funny video contest, and I would throw some set pack for the prizes, if so then what theme would you pick out of the ones I have listed at the bottom.

1.A Star Wars style Cop tv show using the storm trooper characters.

2. A castaway style video using the castaway set, or any other characters.

3. A slap cap comedy like the three stooges, or Benny Hill.

4. A sherlock holmes style video.

and what kind of of set pack would you like to have for the prizes?

this is an idea, not sure if everyone would like to enter it, but it would be fun.
