What Video/Audio Editors/Sites do YOU use? WHY?

Posts: 397 		Thought it would be beneficial if WE ALL listd what 3rd party programs/sites we each use, maybe even a lil short write up of what you like or dislike about what you use, so each user including myself can get an idea of what is capable with each program/site simply by reading the polls and reviewing each others vids. We all want to upgrade and/or change our ways of production to improve, why not help each other out? Let's flex some Muvizu solidarity muscle:

EEFILMZ: I use Muvizu, So far along with
Video Editor(free version): VideoPad
Audio Editor: Audacity(limited knowledge of it though)
some sites like: http://www.sounddogs.com, FREEsound.org,http://soundbible.com, soundcloud.com, and some others I can't think of but will post when I remember!
NOW here is what I DON'T like about VideoPad:
1. the preview window is an illusion as you work, things look bigger than they actually are meaning Titles adn text (credits for example).
2. What you see is NOT always what you get from final output to UPLOAD onto the site - not sure though if that's a Videopad or muvizu/youtube issue(my last vid is case in point)
3. It uses SLIDER controls for font size controls! It should have more precise controls to input a fontsize.

NOW here is what I DO like about VideoPad:

1. Ease of Use - very easy to learn
2. Has alot of effects like split screens and inputting images/video, as well as chroma keying.
3. Has the ability to output an AVI using H264 which dramatically shrinks video sizes and maintains HD quality - that alone is why I haven't switched so far even though other things are annoying and limited! I have now outgrown this I think though and the Free version from what I read is not much different than the Paid version. Here's what it can do:http://www.muvizu.com/Profile/EEFilmz/Latest

Video editing: Hitfilm ultimate. http://hitfilm.com/
Pros: very easy to learn, to me it seems it has a very fast render times. I really love how you can edit your file before editing it in the preveiw window.
Cons: having to convert Muvizu files to avi files again.

I also use TrakAx Pc Pro http://www.trakax.com/software/pc/
Pros: free updates, easy to use, drag and drop, price fast render time, really love the fades
Cons: doesn't export to mp3 anymore only mp4 and wav for sound. Wav saved with TrakAx isn't capatable with muvizu.

Sound - Magix and I recently purchased Mixcraft so I will probably be dropping most of the Magix stuff I used. I was limited to sound loops and some hand made midi files but once upon a time I used to be heavy into music writing and playing it so I am going back to that .

if I want music and am too lazy to take the time to make my own mostly I use partners in rhyme

the other because they have all those household items that are useful and appear in my videos

Ooh, that sounds like a challenge

For video editing and my final output, I use Sony Vegas Pro 11, partly because I won it (thanks Muvizu HQ) but mostly because it isn't Premiere. Vegas is easy to learn (I think) and kind of obvious in it's execution when dealing with multiple tracks. The interface is bland though, but it's not really concerned with being pretty. It just does it's job really well.

For audio editing, I use the little known GoldWave program. It's kind of like Audacity, but with a much more intuitive interface and quick selection/editing tools.

As for sites, there are very very many But the main ones I can't do without are :

www.cgtextures.com (free registration, up to 15mb per day downloads of any textures, quality stuff).

www.1001fonts.com (for when you just can't find the font that fits...)

www.renderosity.com (good Free section for downloading 3D models)

www.sharecg.com (excellent free resource for images, textures and models)

Google 3D Warehouse is also essential to download models for use in Sketchup. Other than that, it's just Photoshop and Final Draft (for screenwriting). Hope this helps someone

My answers

- video editor : Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 10. Affordable price, 10 videos tracks, 10 audio tracks, easy to use, a lot of FX and color control, green screen incrustation, etc

- audio editor : Sound Forge Audio Studio 10 (more professional than Audacity) ; Adobe Audition (very good, with Spectral Equalizer and Noise Reduction, but expensive)

- music : my music, some old tapes + a lot of softwares like Sony Acid Studio, Magix Movie Maker, Magix samplitude, Ableton Live 9, etc

- 3D objects : http://www.sketchup.com/ + http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/ Free & more easy than professional 3DsMax

- image edit : Paint Shop Pro and The Gimp (a freeware like Photoshop)

- book : "Lighting for TV and Film" by Gerald Millerson. Lighting is a very good point of Muvizu

I use Windows Live Movie Maker for the editing (because I'm not made of money)


And for the audio, I use Audacity. (which is great by the way!)

I also get many of the sounds from freesound.org
