Outerra / Anteworld Hi Pat,

Good idea to start a thread about this.
You can shoot with the left mousebutton, but I don't relate of being shot at? That did not happen to me, as far as I know you are roaming the world alone.

Hi Ziggy,

Thanks for the direction, I will have a look at Lumberyard.
I did try layers, but somehow the shadows on the ground don't get rendered in the layer, or maybe I'm doing something wrong.

There's a toggle on the layer menu (in the layer properties, where you first create them) to render separate shadows, which should sort that.

Hi,
Well, I did found that, but I think I did it on the wrong layer with the characters. I just noticed if I do that on the background it gives me separate ground shadows. Thanks!

Ikes,
It was funnier the second time I watched it. Even in a short film like this, I agree with Pat, we are anticipating what the joke will be, or what we are going to see. For those who read comments before watching, I won't spoil it. The first time I was looking at the sand and the water, and your characters, so missed what it was really about.

The second time I noticed the sunburn on the guy running to meet his friends, and that part was really funny. Did you do that on purpose?
It is better viewed smaller screen then full screen because the depth of the water looks better. That is some nice clear water, too. Where is that beach?

It is really nice of you to share your techniques and what you are using. Thank you for all the help you provide in the forum.

Hi Rocque,

Thank you for your reply. The sunburn on the guy was not done on purpose, I did use some brightness and contrast in de edit, so maybe that's the cause. You can't actually see what's all going on in one view, just to make it more interesting for the viewers to watch it again...
In this example i used a screen capture software for the water, that was before I found out that you can record video directly in outerra. I think the location of the beach was somewhere in Florida, haha.

I'm glad to be of help by sharing my experiences and findings.

Sjesus - Going to the beach Hi Pat,

Thanks! I hoped it was clear that he walks on the water, mayby had to put the girl a bit deeper in the water to make it more clear, but I think you got the joke.

Blue screens are quite handy if you dont want to build a hole scene in muvizu. The trick I used here is to take a screenshot of your background and make it 50% or so translucent so you can see trough the image. Put that image over your camera as image overlay and then you can line up the view of the background to the camera view. don't forget to remove it before rendering.

I have not yet explored all the features of outerra, but what I saw made me happy. you can directly record video inside of it. you can even build roads and drive on them. it has snow, rain and wind (storm) and even sounds of birds and waves.

KYUSS DEMON CLEANER Hi Salemkarlos,

Nice vid! I like the atmosphere and the environment. It fits the music style well.
To give some constructive advise. Try to switch some more between the musicians. I saw the bassist only at the beginning. With music video's the flow is better if the still-camera shots are not longer than 5 sec and try the camera switching on the beat of the music.

Happy animating!

Cheers,

Sjesus - Going to the beach Well, another short little movie by me. No intention to offend anyone, just a funny joke. It was actually kind of a test to use bluescreens over backgrounds. I found a very nice sandbox 3d engine Outerra which I used the backgrounds for of the beach and the water. Outerra is an engine of the entire world. It is down-loadable as demo, but if you want you can buy it for $14 and then you can edit the world and import fbx models too. Check it out here: www.outerra.com

No, it is a Wacom Cintiq screen

Ikes, how do you like your Wacom Cintiq? I've been looking at them, but the price has kept me from buying. That's the one that allows drawing directly on the screen while the picture is visible below the pen, right? Amazing concept for digital artists!

Hi Pat,

That's right, I can directly draw on the screen. I bought it a couple of years ago for digitizing a couple of my paintings. I realy like it, altough it is quite expensive indeed.

Extend or combine character actions Hi jgourlay,

Thanks for your reply. I tried to record a video session of my screen. I can capture everything in muvizu exept the pulldown menu's and context menu's when you right click.
So I downloaded and installed ezvid... But it also has the same result, no menu's
With just a printscreen, it is the opposite, then it captures all the menu's and popup screens exept the workspace and camera view.

Do you (or anybody) maybe have a clue why my screen capute doesn't capture pulldown menu's in muvizu? I have tried 3 or 4 different capute software, all with the same result.

Ikes,
thanks for taking time to make this tutorial... it makes sense to me now! VERY clever! Playing devil's advocate here... you could have applied the diving action to the original character and slid the action to wherever you need it, right?

But I can imagine situations where the complexity and timing of the character actions would necessitate something like this! Thank you for sharing the results of your creative exploration with the rest of us! You are very inventive!

Hi Pat,

Thanks, This was indeed a quite simple example with just a walking and one action, just to show how I did it. It is ofcourse possible to have more complex actions with up to more character instances all with their own actions and stich it all together..

Extend or combine character actions Thanks! It could be possible with layers indeed, but can you then kind of see the flow of the action?
I have made a little tutorial on how I do this. Sorry for the video quality. I had to record my screen with a camera, because my screen capture software doesn't record the pulldown menu's in muvizu. Very strange...

Extend or combine character actions Hi All,

I do not know if this is being used by people, but I would like to share a trick I found to extend or combine character actions. What I do is, have multiple instances of a same character. I direct the visibility with keyframes. So the first character is visible and the others are turned off. He can do a walk or an action and if I want him to do something else immediately, I switch off visibility of the first and switch on the second to take it over. You can in this way use the beginning of one action and the end of another. In that way you can make smooth transitions or new kind of actions.

Hope you understand what I mean here. I've made two examples below. Maybe if I have the time, I could make a tutorial if it's not quite clear.

Happy animating!

So which bit of the dialogue system do you not like. I use it all the time and it seems fine to me.....

Well, the fact that you can not move around the blocks to change the timing and that all the dialogue needs to be in one audio file.

my first short animation Hi,

I have found a work around for the dialogue system. check this post for a video tutorial.

Work around for the dialog system Hey guys,

As many of you users of muvizu know, the dialogue system is a pain in the ass. Maybe it will change in the future. But as for now I will show you a trick to make it easier to work with.

I hope you understand the process and if you have any questions, i'm happy to answer them, if I can.

Ikes

(some of the pull down menu's in the video did not show up in the screen recorder, but it is still understandable.)

my first short animation Hey guys,

Thanks a lot for all the positive replies I'm glad you liked it.

And PatMarrNC. thanks for all the points you made. I will comment on that.

1. I did intended the double text to emphasize the drunkenness. Glad you noticed it.
2. Yep, I did made the set myself, also to experience the importing of custom objects.
3. The footsteps and depth of field makes the icing on the cake and gives a more natural feel to it. I am a little perfectionist about details.
4. The big "problem" with all these animations is a good story. This joke I could quite easily visualize to test out the possibilities of muvizu.
5. The bottle he looses after he falls, is also part of the level of detail. Good you noticed that too!
6. I was a little afraid it would be too dark, but it is a night scene. I always turn out the light when I leave, so it just felt naturally to me that Mike did this too.
7. The low camera view emphasized him searching. I do filming myself now and then and had been reading about the importance of camera positions and switchings.
8. I did put a environmental noise in the background, but without a lot of noises like cars and dogs and all, because it is night and then it's much more quite on the streets. Actually the noise is a sound file of "nightly silence" witch I found on the Internet.

Well, thanks again for all the positive vibe. It encourages me to do more. I hope to find the time (and good stories) to make more videos. I like the easiness of muvizu, but it also has a lot of restrictions. Especially the character actions. I also do not like the dialog system where you have to put that into one file. I would really like to see you can attach sounds to a character and move it around on a timeline like the sound effects.

my first short animation Hi,
I finally finished my animation that I had started a while ago. I've made it to test out muvizu and to find out about the workflow. The story is based on an old joke about a drunk guy who lost his keys. The voices are made with Text To Speech and some audioclips, because I can't really do good voices. The final edit was done with hitfilm.

Enjoy the movie and please let me know if you like it, or not.

Regards, Ikes
