01/10/2105 Release Feedback It would save a lot of time if you could move object between layers en masse.

At the moment you can select a range of objects within the layers window, but changing the layer when they are all selected only changes the layer for one object.

I would like it to change the layer for all selected.

01/10/2105 Release Feedback The default names of the layers have changed from "Layer1" to "Layer 1" etc. Grrrrrr........

Although please don't change them back as I will have gone through all my composite shots rebuilding them by then.

01/10/2105 Release Feedback I think leaving them in the group is fine - you can't select individual objects within a group so I don't see why you should be able to in the layers window. Could you not just display the group as you do individual objects. Personally I wouldn't bother supporting objects within a group being on separate layers. So...

  • If objects are in a group then show the group on the layers window (at the moment although it's on the default background layer it doesn't appear at all in the layers window)
  • Support moving the group between layers
  • If you attempt to group objects that are on different layers then ask which layer you want that group on and move them all to that layer

If you want objects on different layers then users will just have to ungroup them.

The main issue is that you can't find which layer objects are on if they're in a group.

Hitfilm's just using the depth pass as a variable mask for the blur effect on the actual footage?

Bang on - note that my depth layer containing the depth pass TARGA sequence is set to not visible (the little eye next to the name). You need to import it into the composite so that the effect can use it as a source, but you don't want to see it.

01/10/2105 Release Feedback Another little one....

Could you get the layers which you have selected to render to save with the set please.

Depth of field and layers I'll try......

The BIG Ol' Codec**t and Windows 10... I know it's probably not what you want to hear but.... I think most of us have given up with codecs completely because of the reasons you list. Render times are probably more to do with your PC spec rather than the format. At higher resolutions the 2GB limit will get you pretty soon so we're all just left with.... TARGA !

I was a late adopter of these and since moving to them all the silly little issues have gone.

I suspect no matter what you do you are heading for TARGA Time.

Depth of field and layers Now layers are pretty mush sorted I thought I'd post a "How To" on creating depth of field in a compositor rather than using Muvizu...

When rendering your layers tick the "depth pass" option. This creates an additional TGA sequence which looks like this…….

The darker the image the closer it is to the camera.

I use HitFilm as my compositor so I will demonstrate the effect in that.

Add a grade layer and apply a lens blur effect. Set the depth pass layer as a source for your lens blur effect (setting the source channel to Luminance).

You then get this effect on the layers below......

Focus is quite subtle in this shot, but you get the idea. There must be something similar in other compositors.

If I don’t need any compositing then I just do everything in Muvizu.

01/10/2105 Release Feedback Just a little one....

If you import a favourite character and your the background layer is hidden then they come in it that multicoloured texture we had when loading scenes with hidden layers.

It not much of an issue as you can just delete, enable the layer and re-import, but you may want to tidy it up....

20/08/15 reelase feedback Global would probably be fine... What do you think ?

Will do......

This is the way it's meant to work. Sorry.

I think a better improvement would be to have a tick box to say "Render layers in full" - then render all selected layers as if you were rendering one by one ??

20/08/15 reelase feedback Could you change it so which layers are selected to render save with the set please.

If you open a set and deselect a layer to render then the set will ask you to save if you close it. However if you do save and reload then the deselected layer is selected once again.

Many thanks......

Multiple sound effects at same time I think the sounds are embedded - not sure you can get to them.

Have you had a look at freesound.org ?

20/08/15 reelase feedback I've been working with layers quite a bit and am wondering if this is a bug or the way it's supposed to work....

I have 3 layers + background. If I have a character on layers 1 and 3 and the props on 2, then when I render out there is a hierarchy.

My character on layer 1 renders completely, even if he walks behind something in the shot.
The Props on layer 2 will have a character 1 shaped hole in them. Anything he stands in front of will be rendered as transparent.
My character on layer 3 will only partially render - anything he walks behind will cause a prop shaped hole.

This may be the way it's supposed to work - it's fine for adding effects to individual layers, but I like to use layers for subtly re-positioning characters which of course will not work as it leaves gaps.

I don't think it is supposed to do this as if you render the layers separately instead of all together then all layers render in full.

20/08/15 reelase feedback There is a lurking lip sync bug...

Occasionally characters just don't move their lips at all. If you re-render without changing anything then they do.

I've had it a few times but as I can't reproduce it or devise an explanation I haven't reported it, but it's in there.......

Help with recommended hardware 4 MZu? MrDrWho13 wrote:
the only way to really increase the loading times for sets is probably to get an SSD

I actually tried that MrDrWho and it made no difference. It's not the reading off the disk it's the displaying which seems to hold things up, so I think it's pretty much GPU all the way.

Help with recommended hardware 4 MZu? I used to think that it was all in the graphics card, but recently I've noticed my CPU takes a bit of a beasting as well. I'm also fairly sure that since we've had the updates with layers the whole thing takes more resource (which is fair enough - you don't get anything for nothing). I've tried running the whole thing off SSD but it made surprisingly little difference.

Don't forget the top tip about copying away your fresh install and then regularly reverting back to it to maintain the speed of set loading.

So I would predict it's mainly the video card - http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=GeForce+GT+630 - it's not looking that quick. Upgrading the CPU may also help, but it's harder.

Hope this helps.

20/08/15 reelase feedback Change request.....

Could you please suppress the warning regarding the number of faces when you open a set please. It's fair enough when you import an object, but if I've saved the set you can assume that I'm happy with the imported object and I don't need to warned again.

It may sound petty, but some complex sets can take 5 minutes to open. If I've gone to make a cup of tea and this message pops up 20 seconds into the load then it's really quite annoying. I have to make a second cup.

I get through a lot of tea.
