Let me clarify...not hills in a background...but what I really need is to have the floor feel like my character is on top of a hill.

Hi Borisg, I don't know if I understand exactly, but U want to have a fisical hill in the scene, right?

I don't try, I just think in this moment and for me is 2 way to do that :

1. U made the hill U want with external software, like sketchUp.
2. U put a ball primitive and U made large, maybe without fisics and U can push down in the floor.

That's just a idea, not a soultion

You could use one of the hill objects (check the nature category) and set it to float in the air, positioning it at the hight need for the top of the hill and then, at ground level, put down the scene you want. Take some buildings and roads as an example, if you scale them down it'll look like it's really high up on top of the hill - might take some work to get the whole scene built though.

Another way to do it could be to use a photo from the top of a hill you like, this should look like the character is then on the top of the hill.
