On both Laptop/home pc, I keep getting this when trying to load certain set files and then the file won't open! ALSO the Favorite characters that I created for those Set files wont appear and do not show up in the list, although when i first go to open the set file i see the preview w/the character in it, then it wont open, and the characters aren't available!...HELP!? pic.twitter.com/UrGcR5MG and I get 1 or 2 other messages that prevent me from opening them too!

EEF - Is this the problem with saving favourites/sets with characters with decals on their bodies or skirts ?

This is the only time I've seen this error, but these sets would have saved but not opened at the time.

I hope not as there is no way round it.

EFF - The icon you see is basically a saved image within the file that windows displays rather than the default Muvizu icon. So seeing the thumbnail icon doesn't mean anything is working with Muvizu.

The favourites are saved on the computer you were using Muvizu on at the time, not in the set file. So if you've saved them on the laptop and transferred the set to your desktop the favourites won't be available either. This is also the case if you uninstall and reinstall Muvizu, the favourites you've made are removed when Muvizu is removed.

Normally when a set gets to this point, of not loading, there isn't much you can do. If you created the set in a previous version of Muvizu you can try going back to that version and open the set file there, remove or delete things, save and try loading it in the latest version. This might work, but then again, it might not. If you send your set file into bugs@muvizu.com we can take a look and see if there is anything we can do.

@ukBerty - No decals were used I created a joker type character and a detective type on same set and saved it, but I don't think I favorited the characters? I'm not sure, but that set file no longer opens so I can't use the characters ugh!

@Jamie, in this instance, I didn't create an elaborate set, I just saved a plain set with the 2 characters I created so i could go back to them easily (I was still at the nursing home at the time); Now since the latest Muvizu update. I guess maybe that as the issue? I dunno. I don't really wanna go back to an earlier version though. I guess I would just have to do it all over again, but is this going to happen to ALL my old set files? because that would really be a NIGHTMARE and really make me turn green (and not in a good way!).

EEF - I have such a set which I have used for over a year now, and it still opens fine. I have now saved the custom textures in there as well as this has been fixed.

However, you must make sure that you don't save any sets you wish to use again if you're using the Extreme version, or save them as a different name, as Muvizu don't guarantee that these will load in future releases. I always start saving sets with a suffix - e.g. "Characters22b.set" when we get a new version, just in case I have to roll back to the previous version (I've learnt the hard way !)

OH ! that's Genius my friend!...I see, so you put the version of Muvizu in the suffix - I get it...Never thought of that! I have another file that has a BUNCH of characters and a few models in it as well, and my fear is a set like that, or my sets created involving a ton of work etc will be lost if this keeps happening. What do you mean "don't" save the sets if I want to use them again in extreme version? and how do you "roll back" to a previous version (when you need to)? I am only using the extreme version of Muvizu. Thanks ukBerty - EEFilmz

The extreme version of Muvizu maybe the problem EEF. It's a bit out dated now anyway as we released a stable version early September. I'd recommend upgrading to the latest stable release version before you do anything else.

If you want to go back to other versions of Muvizu they are available on the download page or I can post mirror links to let you download them.

I mean that if you're using the Extreme version don't save sets you make in the released version unless you rename them. As the Extreme version doesn't guarantee forward set compatibility anything you save in any particular vintage of Extreme probably won't be able to be used in any other version - future or past. If you're working on a short clip that's fine but as I'm working on something that'll take longer I have to avoid production using the Extreme version for this reason.

EEFilmz wrote:

Muvizu install is great as you can install multiple versions. So when the next version comes out I will install in in c:\program files\Muvizu23b. I can then play with this new Extreme version and have the old one to fall back on. Same with stable releases. If there are any problems with the new version which means I cannot use it I can "roll back" and just use old one. I keep using "save as" withe the suffix on my sets until I'm happy with the new version as sets saved are not backwardly compatible.

Sure you lose your favourites this way, but like you I have a "characters.set" with all my chaps in which I simply load and add everyone in favourites again.

If you have installed over the old version you could download it and install in c:\program files\muvizu21b or whatever. All you need to do is create shortcuts to c:\programfiles\muvizuXXX\binaries64\muvizu.exe for each version.

Hope this explains....

Wow...Thanks ukBerty, you definitely helped with that idea, for sure!...Also I mispoke b4, I mean I am using whatever the latest version of muvizu is, I listed it here for Jamie too...Now if only I could understand why I have NEVER in any version, been able to import ANY video onto a backdrop in muvizu or anywhere in muvizu Ever!...That's an old problem I wish I had figured out by now too.

Well this an issue and I don't really know what the rules are but I have never got a video to import without running it through a re-render first using some editing software. I have just tried with Sony Vegas. Load the AVI you want into Vegas (I have to re-render through virtualdub first to do this from Muvizu AVIs). Then "Make Movie" and render using Video for Windows(*.avi) - PAL DV Widescreen. The output from this loads into Muvizu backdrops just fine.

I used to use Pinnacle Studio to do this so any editing software should be able to produce usable AVI files.

Well, the "NIGHTMARE" came true on all accounts, now ALOT of my Set Files are Crashing when I try to open them, so now I cannot access those Fav characters on those set files...I've backed everything up on flash drives and on my laptop as best as I could (i'm unorganized) but it looks like my next step now is I am downloading an old version like ukBerty suggested, and gonna see what happens with more than one version of Muvizu on my PC...Other than that I was contemplating uninstalling everything and starting from scratch but that'd suck because I downloaded xvid seperately, and got everything working as far as codecs and video on backdrops were concerned, and then this had to spread like a rumor at a ladies' luncheon...All these crashes and technical fixes are driving me nuts now!

Here's a thought - since you've used the extreme versions in the past without keeping them seperate from the stable versions, maybe you could solve some of the problems with the sets by loading them up in 0.22b, select everything, copy, create a new set, then paste it all back in. Now when you save the set, it should contain only stable items. Should, I say I've had to do this myself, and it's a bit of a pain to get to a point in the set where you can successfully paste, and then you've got to 'drop' everything to stop it floating in the air...but it's worth a go if all else isn't helping.

Edit: ZIggy, that won't work b/c when I open the set it immediately crashes I am using the 22b version and heck, I mae a new set which i had called superheroes and That's toast now too it wont let me open it.
Im wondering if I should download extreme? or 21b or ...hell I dunno my head is cream corn now, and my stomach still hurts real bad nw...might be goin back to the hospital. It's not good to be frustrated AND in pain! ugh....I wish there was a completely seperate way to save favorites OUTSIDE of Muvizu in a folder or something! I WISH!

Thanks Ziggy, I will try that, Thanks! 8)

Yeah, you'll have to use the same version you created the set in to be able to even open it, let alone rescue it. Guess you'll have to download every version, then try loading them up one by one... oh dear

Also, I would recommend you never use favourites - save your characters/models/whatever as a set file, then copy and paste them into your working set file. Favourites don't survive version changes, and Muvizu changes versions very frequently (relatively speaking ). I've never used the favourites for this very reason, and have had an easier time of it because of that. Good luck with the sets - we feel for ya!
