This guy says it best, in case any of you are wondering what the fuss is about.

Please like his video. Please email Google and tell them they are idiots. Please remember, when your videos have practically no comments made on them, this is why.

yeah it has most definatly fragmented the community and boy am i getting a crap ton of spam mails in my gmail box now lol. The few people I socialize with on youtube well we are busy discussing our stuff on facebook instead at least kids are weeded out plus we have a bit of control over the spammers.

They have done a few others things as well comments is just one of the several new things that well they are trying to keep control of everything and this is all about "the money" only the harder they struggle to keep control the worse its getting right now

i think muvizu should consider moving to something like dailymotion they have basically the same structure as youtube vimeo is nice but if you want to upload something larger you have to pay for a pro account so its not good for our stuff here.

so my vote is (still) for dailymotion .

This seems to be the perfect storm - two elephants in the room have smashed into each other and the result is the new YouTube comments system. So just what are these Jumbos ?

Jumbo 1 :- People need to wake up to how free services work. Take ITV (for those not in the UK this will seem like a normal TV channel - they get money from adverts). Ask yourself what do ITV sell ? Downton Abbey ? Cornflakes ? No - they sell their viewers to advertisers. The content they show is a way of attracting more viewers so they can consequently sell them for more money. This can work, although by definition this will get more programmes like X-factor than Storyville made, but there's enough for everyone. So repeat the mantra - "if the service is free, then YOU are the product". This is not a global conspiracy or anything but it's good to know where you stand in the food chain.

Jumbo 2 :- There seems to be a shift in focus for all big software companies at the moment. The business model used to be - we'll create a fantastic product and people will buy it as it will be useful to them (or in Apple's case - desirable to them). We are currently in a different phase of the market. There are now companies who believe they are so powerful that there is no alternative and they can change their products to suit their own agenda and we will all just follow. It's not just Google, Microsoft have been on this kick for the last 5 years now - Windows 8 ? Did anyone want this ? It's to drive their online revenue streams - was it shown to a single business before release ? It just gets laughed at. Office 365 ? (it's all about the billing model). The Windows 2012 interface - don't get me started. They simply do not care about providing great products to their customers anymore.

Time will move on and the likes of Google and Microsoft will either get back to their core values or die. This will take time, but something better and more useful will come along.

Just my two pennies

...aaaaand just when you think Google's moral faggotry can't get any worse with what they're doing to destroy the Youtube community, this happens...

Bad enough that YT are now punishing anyone who expresses an opinion they don't like (by removing the ability to moneytize that video), and trying to phase out subscriptions (so you only see what THEY recommend), but now there's this nonsense...

I thought this was going to be about the new system of "advertiser-friendly" content, where they're de-monetizing videos that feature swearing, "sexual humor" and more. Many popular Youtubers are watching their revenue dry up because of this, and there have been widespread cries of censorship.

Ziggy, I admire a lot of what you do here, but I gotta say the homophobic slur is really inappropriate. It's an offensive word and certainly doesn't fit the general friendly tone of the board. (Not trying to bring down the big p.c. hammer, and I'm hoping you were just using a bit of gamer-speak without really thinking it through.)

Faggotry
/fag-a-trE/
word of origin faggot
1 noun; usually disparaging but not necessarily a homosexual. see also gayness
2 adjective; usually disparaging but not necessarily homosexual. see also gayness

If I have offended any SJWs then good. Ironically, it's SJW fascism that Youtube hopes to enforce across it's entire output.

Contrary to what many people on YouTube are saying, they're not actually censoring these videos. All they're doing is not allowing you to make money off videos that are against their guidelines. (Nothing's actually changed, they just re-worded it)
It's still a scumbag move by YouTube, but not quite as much as people make out.

You are right, If someone wants to express his ideas, there is no need to make business or receive money for that

well.. that depends on your definition of censorship. If censorship is only considered such when it is the complete prohibition of self-expression, then your statement rings true.

But many people see this topic as a "toad in a pan of heated water" scenario, in which people are led to accept an ever-increasing amount of information control until it reaches the point of no return and the toad is boiled (and dead)

When evaluating arguments like this, the first question to ask is whether the two points of view are differences in KIND or differences in DEGREE.

Differences in KIND would be VIOLENCE as a solution, as opposed to NON-VIOLENCE
Difference in DEGREE would be spanking versus beheading.

Once the public approves a certain KIND of policy, it is very easy for the powers in control to ramp up the DEGREE. Which is why in early discussions they always argue DEGREE, not KIND.
("What we're doing is not as bad as what people are suggesting...") a statement of DEGREE which totally side-steps the fact that the KIND of policy they are pursuing is indeed what the people fear it is.

In this case, a difference in KIND equates to opinion control versus freedom of expression...

Difference in degree is control through economic sanctions or control by absolute decree. You are arguing in favor of control because you accept the current lesser degree... but once control is established as the norm the degree of control will certainly ramp up to something you probably would not accept.

Hard to imagine, but I had never seen the acronym SJW until today, and I had to look it up. The topic would make an interesting and perhaps controversial Muvizu video if anybody was brave enough to tackle it.

Just a bleedin' awesome point Pat, just exactly what I'm talking about - all dictatorships begin with censorship, you can't have one with it. First it's demonetizing videos, then removing your subscription feed, and now the 'heroes' can shut you down if they don't like your vids - how will that work if a 'hero' doesn't agree with your political views, or sexuality, or religion, or sense of humour, etc? An awful lot of people rely on their YT videos to generate income, and that's already started to come to a crashing halt (but YT doesn't even inform you of which vids it's demonetized!). The days of free speech on YT are over. Sad but true.
