Hi all,

I dabbled a bit in Muvizu a few years ago.

I have spent the last couple of years working on a feature length DK adventure movie, which has since been split up into a series.

If you're interested, check out the movies below. I hope you enjoy!

I can't speak for anybody else, but I think that when a company foots the bill for a website to promote their product, using their resources to showcase a competing product is not cool.

To me it's the equivalent of one of my wife's married friends leaving her marriage for a free lifestyle, then coming back to my house to show my wife an album full of pictures showing how much more exciting the swinger life is than the married life. Both scenarios tend to undermine the audience's satisfaction with their current situation.

I support everybody's right to choose the platform that works for them, and to move on if they aren't happy using whatever they started with, but I've never respected the practice of coming back to say how much greener the grass is somewhere else.

My 2 cents. Other peoples' mileage may vary.

I'm not trying to say the grass is greener with SFM. The learning curve is very steep, and Muvizu is a great tool for people learning animation. Nowhere in my post do I ever try and convince people to choose SFM over Muvizu, either.

I am simply posting a project that I am working on (which I thought fellow animators might find interesting), in the General Discussion forum. "Talk about anything non-Muvizu related".

I usually agree with you, Pat, and to some extent on this post I do and definitely see and respect your point of view. I also appreciate sonosublime's reply and posting this in general.

I think someone else mentioned the platform used in May, because I visited the site then but decided it was not for me because all I saw was soldier or war related, so it was interesting to see a different type of offering. The first thing to catch my mind was that sonosublime stated that he spent a couple of years so far on this series. Well a couple of years to make 6 animations is a lot of time, so that lends itself to the difficulty of using the product.

While I was watching the series I kept asking myself the question: "Could this have been created using Muvizu?" I know there are several artists here who could create this type of series. I am not inviting anyone to copy this work, but simply saying that all the tools are here on Muvizu, or on the compositing tools that so many use to create fun series such as this one.

The writing held my attention and has appeal to all ages. I especially enjoyed the kid friendly nature of what I saw. I had some questions as to the use of music that might be copy-written, since YT will not show my videos that I have made using some of my favorite songs, so those remain for my enjoyment only. For that reason alone I am not sure how long they will remain for public viewing in the USA.

My take on the sharing of this series, is that I learned by watching it. I laughed at parts, and enjoyed the use of the sounds/music since it added so much. I also learned by Pat's comments, which I feel were written from the heart, and made sense. I had to question how I felt about the whole thing and that lead to this comment.

I am hoping that the sharing of this type of video will inspire viewers to want to create series on Muvizu. We have seen what Clayster can create with his Alien Grey series, and those have been fun, so maybe we will see more. I admire anyone who will spend a couple of years working on a project. It is my feeling that sonosulime is looking for views and not attempting to drive people to another platform. Hopefully they will want to create some type of series using Muvizu now that they have proven that they can definitely write a great series, and get a team of people to collaborate on it with them. It is very inspiring.

Thank you for the very detailed analysis Rocque. I'm glad you enjoyed the series so far. Animated films are my favourite kind, because they have appeal to all ages, which is what I was trying to go for here. I haven't had an issue with copyright so far, as I'm not making money off these videos.

copyright law does not differentiate between commercial and non commercial use. Although it's true that you become more of a target for lawsuits if you start making money with other peoples' intellectual property, it is equally illegal to redistribute protected media for free. Some might even argue that distributing it for free is even more damaging to the owner, because it diminishes the value.

Using protected music on Youtube is kind of a unique situation. They've started monetizing such videos, but instead of paying the person who hosts the material, they pay the copyright owner. The irony is they make more money that way than they do from licensed streaming through Pandora and Spotify.

Youtube content can generate some serious money if you are 100% the content owner. If so, you can monetize your views. The shelf life of video is practically infinite, and views just accumulate forever. Anybody who is going to a lot of trouble to make and post online content should seriously consider using all original (or licensed) content so they can monetize.

Totally agree with what PatMarrNC said.

We are starting to use Muvizu to make videos for our bands songs. I have set in motion things to protect both our videos and audios on Youtube from copyright claims.

I did try SFM a couple of years ago, but was put off my the rules for commercial use.

I've been using Moviestorm for a couple of years, but never got around to finishing anything. I think we will use Muvizu mostly for new music videos, with occasional Moviestorm ones when I get enough time to get a video done before the song is released.

It should be noted that there are plenty of Youtube users who claim copyright to videos when they have no right to. I work with public domain material and I have put up public domain videos more a a way to get people to visit my blog on public domain and because I honestly feel these videos should remain in the publics eye.. I received a notice from Youtube of a copyright violation made by another Youtuber. I disputed it and noted that public domain material cannot be copyrighted unless significant changes were made. They put any earnings on hold for 30 days and release them to the winner (for lack of another way of saying this)

The person had claimed copyright and was allowing the video to be used but would claim any earnings. Now the most I've ever made on a video is 23 cents. lol So it was matter of principle to me. The claim was dropped.

I've seen others say a copyright claim was made on videos they have made with no music or anything even remotely delving into anyone elses material. Apparently certain keywords trigger an automatic response to copyright. People are complaining to Youtube as they make it the responsibility of the person to prove it's not copyrighted and automatically allow the person making the complaint to do so with no penalty if they are proven wrong and did so knowing it was not copyright by them.

My point is if you get one of these notices, don't panic and look outside for a swat team. Review your video and if there is no possible way that anything you used could be considered copyright by anyone, dispute it. It's easy and doesn't hurt your account.

Even with public domain songs you can get in trouble if you use somebody's copyright protected arrangement of it.

It's my understanding that copyright protects the lyrics, melody and arrangement, including any signature licks (like the whistle in GOOD VIBRATIONS). Public domain status frees up the lyrics and melody, but people can still protect their arrangement

For example OH SUSANNAH is public domain, and you can make your own version of it without any problems.... but you still can't use James Taylor's version of it, because his ARRANGEMENT is protected.

People who think they can use symphonic recordings of classical works or Christmas carols because they're in the public domain may fail to realize that they're using a fairly recent recording of a protected arrangement.

Right, Pat. It's why when I would write a fractured fairy tale, I made certain it was in no way connected to the Disney version. It's funny that Disney built their empire using public domain material and then helped push through more stringent copyright laws.

As far as music goes, I try to avoid music when possible for reasons you state. I'm not as familiar with the laws. Like you say, you can use them but you need to be certain the arrangement isn't one that has not reached copyright status. I think if I got a copyright infringement to a video I put up with music I would likely just take it down unless I was 100% certain it was in the public domain.

Excellent advice, Comictude! Something for all of us to keep in mind!

Regarding the legality of music in videos: this is why I use BAND IN A BOX software for music creation... it is very useful for generating unique arrangements for any chord pattern. And you don't have to search through endless libraries to find what you need. You can make it in minutes, and it's 100% legal!
