If you want a backdrop with a partially see through area in it eg.tinted windows then using the backdrop object in muvizu doesnt work as the tint comes out as a solid colour but if you import a rectangular object from sketchup (selecting opacity when importing!) with the same dimensions as the texture you want on it then hey presto you have the back drop you were looking for!

be sure to apply the texture to the object and re size it to the objects size before exporting from sketchup to ensure it fits on the object within muvizu

lighting could be a problem though as things get weird when you dim the lights

thought this might be helpful

cheers

Good Posting

Nice one - any ideas on how you could get car windows to do the same? I'd really love to have cars you can see into. Is there something in Sketchup I can change to enable the opacity to work? I've tried every import option to get them, and it just aint happening.

I imported a car from sketchup for the same reason but before exporting I deleted the windows allowing me to see into the car but I imagine if you have a png texture with say 30% opacity and you import the texture into muvizu for use on the car windows assuming you haven't deleted them like me then it should work providing you have imported the object with opacity selected

I'll have a go when I get home tonight but I'm sure its possible

Cheers

While I was playing around with objects and textures I tried using an avi file as a texture also which worked a treat If only we has the ability to use avi files with transparency then we could have some really cool effects! eg.2d animations in a 3d environment..

No promises, but I'm going to have a look at that if/when I get chance.

It works and it doesn't.
If you import the car with the alpha set to opacity, then yes you can have tinted windows that you can see right through to the inside of the car, but sadly the whole car also has a weird transparency thing happening cos when you look at the car you can see the wheels through the body of the car as if the whole thing were made of glass so i would delete the windows in sketchup before importing and colour and texture the rest of it in muvizu
see below...

Brilliant, thanks for that! Although, you might actually want a glass vehicle for some reason...Wonder Woman's plane, perhaps? Anyway, off to break the windows out of an old Capri!
