PC requirements Hi Computerboffin,
This sounds like it could be a graphics card issue - can you please provide us with some info on what graphics card you have on your machine? Also, while your CPU sounds like it's ok this could also be at the root of the problem - what is your CPU spec?

Thanks

i can't see anything (objects, camera ect.) Hi JGjosephgrayJG,
When you create an object, can you see it in the camera window? if you can, it could be a simple issue that can be resolved in grand IT tradition of rebooting your machine. If this doesn't work, just ping us on here and we'll try our best to resolve your issues.

Thanks

I can run the program but then... Could you give us some more information on your machine specs? This will help us figure out what's going on with the application. If you could send the information to bugs@muvizu.comabout your computer system. What we would need your full systemspecifications using a small part of Direct X. This is called DXDiag, which is a tool that is shipped by Microsoft as part of DirectX andbasically gathers your system configuration and lets you save it as atext file. To use it follow these instructions:

1. Click the start menu.
2. Select Run.
3. Type dxdiag and hit enter (or click ok).
4. Wait until the processing bar runs to completion.
5. Click the save information button.
6. Attach the file with all the information to an email reply to us.

You can find more information on DXDiag at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc938991.aspx

Thanks.

Hi j0nte33,
Sometimes it takes a little time to start once the other splash screens are through - especially when you first download it. Can I ask how long you left it before you (i assume) forced quit? Did it crash at all? Or did it just fail to load?

Thanks

Can't start Muvizu Hi Mr_00,

The error message you've encountered means that, unfortunetly, your graphics card is not able to run Muvizu 3D.

You should double check the graphics card in your computer against the specifications on our download page(http://www.muvizu.com/Information/Download.aspx) but you should haveat minimum an Nvidia 7800 GTX or ATI 1300 graphics card.

If it is equal to or greater than the minimum recomended graphics card please let us know and we will investigate further.

Thanks again,
The Muvizu Team

How do i start muvizu? Hi Orangequant,

I took a look at the graphics card you've listed and it says it supports shader model 3.0 (which means it should support shader model 2.0) and you can take a look for yourself at http://ati.amd.com/products/RadeonX1300/specs.html

The ATI X1300 is listed as the minimum specification of graphics card for Muvizu so it should run, but it may only just run considering it is the minimum.

Muvizu can't advise if you should or should not buy that graphics card, it needs to be your choice - but it may be worth spending a bit more to get a higher spec graphics card that will last you a bit longer. Computing and especially 3D graphics technology is pressing forward all the time, so if you get the minimum graphics card now you may end up in the same situation of having to upgrade again relativly soon if you take the minimum spec card compared to taking a slightly higher spec card now.

Thanks,
The Muvizu Team

How do i start muvizu? Hi orangequant,

Thanks for getting in touch with us, we're not sure why you've not been able to find the icon to open it. It should be located at Start -> Programs -> Muvizu. At present we don't create desktop or quick launch icons for Muvizu but this is an feature we may add to our installer at some point in the future. If it's not on the start menu could you let us know and we'll look into that further.

If you're getting an error message about shader model 2.0 it means that, unfortuently, you're graphics card isn't up to running Muvizu. You should double check the graphics card in your computer against the specifications on our download page (http://www.muvizu.com/Information/Download.aspx) but you should have at minimum an Nvidia 7800 GTX or ATI 1300 graphics card.

Here are a few extra resources on shader model 2.0:

Competition Hi guys,

Ask and we'll answer - the official word on the competition winners (Muvizu ran in conjunction with 3D World magazine) will be coming your way Wednesday March 17th! As you may know, we at Muvizu HQ are not judging the competition (it wouldn't be fair!) but left it in the capable hands of 3D World Magazine alongside Escape Studios. We will make an announcement on this site (also via our Facebook page and Twitter account) so keep an eye out and good luck to everyone who entered the competition!

Keeps running out of memory Hi braveheartbill,
First of all, thanks for taking the time to download & play with Muvizu. The memory issues you're experiencing has to do with the fact that Muvizu is a 32-bit application. 32-bit applications can only access 4GB memory at maximum, with only 2GB available to us (the rest is reserved for the OS and graphics card, etc). The problem could be that your scenes are too complicated and heavy resulting in the need for more memory. We would recommend you simplify your scenes as a way around this. Included in the latest version of Muvizu is a simple video joiner that allows you to cobble together separate scenes and clips into 1 video. By simplifying scenes and utilising the video joiner, you could create the video you want without the problems mentioned above.

As we further develop and update the application, we continute to optimise the memory usage. Furthermore, we are considering updating to a 64-bit build in the future, but don't hold your breath because we've got so much other stuff to fix and build.

proxy? Hi Tonia,

We'd like to help as much as possibly, can you give us a few more details first?

1. Could you give us some more details about the proxy you use and is this a SOCKS proxy you use?
2. When you say log on are you refering to the log on feature within the application to access your account from the application or do you mean the log on step before uploading a video? Does log on to youtube to upload a video work?

If the problem is logging on to upload to Muvizu.com or Youtube.com then the easiest solution in the short term would be to login using your browser and upload via the website.

Thanks,
The Muvizu Team

Nothing appears Hi progamex,

We have experienced this problem a few times ourself when testing the releases, however we've never been able to repeat this problem with any consistency so we've been unable to track down the specific sequence of steps to repeat the problem. What usually works for us to see the contents of your scene again is to restart the computer.

To try and aviod losing your skins, if just restarting does not help you, you can install Muvizu over the existing installation. This way your saved skins will remain.

As for a cause to this problem? The best idea we have just now is that it may be a result of a conflict between graphics card drivers, although this is just an idea as the problem only affects a few of the computers we've tested on and they do tend to be older computers. You may need to check for an update to your graphics card drivers.

If you could send us some additional information to bugs@muvizu.com about your computer system it might help us to identify the root cause of this issue. What you should do is gather your full system specifications using asmall part of Direct X. This is called DXDiag, which is a tool that is shipped by Microsoft as part of DirectX and basically gathers your system configuration and lets you save it as a text file.

We have a new version planned for release within the next month, so hopefully this update will iron out this issue.

Thanks for taking the time to report the issue,
The Muvizu Team.

Rendering at higher resolutions? Hello, thanks for taking the time to request new features.

You'll be pleased to know that higher resolutions (up to 1280x760) has been enabled in the most recent release of Muvizu. This should sort the antialiasing point that was also raised, as the blocky-ness of the rendered output was down to the resolution rather than anything else.

Currently the options to set the frame rate or to export the render as an image sequence are not available in Muvizu, but we're also trying to improve Muvizu and we will take those suggestions onboard.

In the meantime you can use a 3rd party editor, such as VirtualDub (virtualdub.org) to change the fps of a video as well as exporting an image squences from your videos.

Thanks again,
The Muvizu Team.

Hints and tips for the 3D application If you are having problems installing or running Muvizu 3D there are a few things you can try.

The first is to download the latest version of the application from http://www.muvizu.com/Information/Download.aspx making sure to take the direct x and .net version (the one with the bean character holding the sign). This version includes everything needed to run Muvizu.

If this still does not get Muvizu running for you then you can check that you have an up to date version of the Microsoft Visual C++2005 Redistributable Package installed, this can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=200b2fd9-ae1a-4a14-984d-389c36f85647&displaylang=en.

Lastly, if your still having problems running Muvizu then can you email us at contact@muvizu.com providing us with the following information:

1. The version of .net you arerunning. You can find out how to identify the version (if any) byfollowing the steps on this page: http://www.ehow.com/how_5125425_check-microsoftnet-framework-version.html

2. The second is to gather your full system specifications using asmall part of Direct X. This is called DXDiag, which is a tool that isshipped by Microsoft with DirectX and basically gathers your systemconfiguration and lets you save it as a text file. To use it followthese instructions:

a. Click the start menu.
b. Select Run.
c. Type dxdiag and hit enter (or click ok).
d. Wait until the processing bar runs to completion.
e. Click the save information button.
f. Attach the file with all the information to an email reply to us.

You can find more information on DXDiag at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc938991.aspx

3. Lastly it would be useful to include screen shots of the error messages in the email.

Thanks for reporting these issues, good luck and we hope Muvizu runs for you!

Cheers,
The Muvizu Team.

Regarding Competition Rules ? Dear Jon -

Thanks for your comments about our alpha app, they are much appreciated. As regards the competition, I am sorry to say that your video should be made entirely in Muvizu, which means that you won't be able to add credits or title screens - that info will have to go in the description of the film.

Although this won't be of much consolation to you, we plan to launch our beta version in mid-February and this has an edit/splice tool bolted on to it, plus a much more sophisticated timeline and the ability to override any gesture or animation selected automatically by the app.

There is nothing to stop you making the video you'd like, using third-party apps, and publishing it to our site or YouTube - but that "director's cut" version won't be allowed in the competition.

I hope that you will still stick with us, and submit an entry to the comp.

Very best regards,

The Muvizu team

PS: And yes, we did use a third-party app for our rolling credits on our festive video (on the home page).

Mac compatibility Hi dosorio71,
As you've gathered, our application doesn't work with Macs (unfortunately) due to the fact that it's built on the Unreal3 engine - which itself is not Mac compatible. We've received a lot of queries about Mac compatibility, however until Unreal3 can offer a Mac friendly version I'm afraid we're stuck in PC land.

However, any Mac with Intel processors allows you to use Mac's Boot Camp to set up a PC partition on your machine allowing you to run Muvizu 3D - it works very well actually. You could also try a virtualised PC environment using software such as VMwareFusion or Parallels however, performance could suffer - particularly, running the app could be slower especially if you create complicated sets with manycharacters in a scene.

Hope this information helps.

need help! Hi tlacuache,
First thanks for joining our community & downloading the Muvizu 3D app. We're always excited to hear from users. Right, now down to the serious stuff - answers to your questions below:
  • how do I upload my projects?(video files): if you've created a project, you should have an 'upload assets' link on the upper right hand corner of the Project Assets portal within the Project main page. Click on that link and away you go
  • What the size limit for the video files?: the size limit for videos is 100MB; images is 500KB; audio files is 5MB
  • Is this software compatible with any other software?: at the moment, we've not opened the app to working with other software packages within the app. This capability is definitely on the cards for the near future but at the moment we haven't made that capability open to the general public. You can definitely create clips and then use other software packages for such things as editing or what have you.
Hope this helps some, and if you have any more queries, suggestions or issues just drop us a line.

Thanks
