Hi, Tangledbliss has been inquiring about starting up a small website with a dedicated comment system and forum for Muvizu.
I'm not sure if anyone else is intrested in helping out because I've only seen the emails sent out rather than the replies.

What are your thoughts on this?

Could be an idea,

The constantly overflowing traffic of this forum is so hard to keep up with, post after post, thread after thread...

..A new place to dilute the relentless flow of information, videos and links etc could just be what is needed.

but yeah I agree with dreeko.... the only thing would be more control over moderation, but to be honest there is not enough of a demand to even worry about that. I would suggest utilizing communities that already exist instead of making yet another forum. There are communities out there already and they to are filled with tumbleweed so honestly I dont think it will help to add yet another.

I am simply not posting much as a conscious decision to avoid getting tangled up in internet drama moving the forum wont make me post anymore.

do we need another forum? less and less people use this one already. everything is set up here for users already and its their choice not to take advantage of what we have. im not sure a new forum would solve any of the problems of nobody commenting on things. after all you don't need to use youtube to post a comment in this forum.
it seems to me the problem here is not the forum, its the gallery and only being linked to youtube. how easy or hard an independent comment system would be to set up i dont know or even allowing the embedding of videos from other sites. would that solve the problems here at muvizu i dunno. would setting up a new site solve the problems? if no one is using this site why would a new one be any different?
fixing the software would be more of a priority for me and it doesn't look like that's going to happen any time soon if ever.

I think fazz68's last line would solve a few things.
1. Make fixing the software more of a priority for us current Muvizuers.
2. By doing (1) more of us would use these forums.

I also think with Digimania's new software release Muvizu has been put out of sight out of mind. (HOPEFULLY NOT FOR LONG)

Another forum would be pointless. Muvizu has joined the list of failed attempts to make real-time animation software profitable. The Movies, Xtranormal and Moviestorm might be the best known but there have been several others. At least when the Movies died they announced it formally. Moviestorm has only got 1.5 staff now but to their credit they are still releasing updates and fixing bugs - something Muvizu has given up on. iClone is the only real survivor and it requires much more effort (and cash) to learn than some of the others.
But that's just life in the virtual world, folks.

Just had a look around, and we seem to have lost quite a few users such as EEF, Fullmetal, SimonHeffer, Skylike, and Dwarf.
:/

Also, most (if not all) of the tester threads have been closed.

It seems as if the Muvizu user base may soon become extinct...

The issue if I may. Isn't the forum, it isn't the users it's Muvizu. No updates on software means nothing to talk about really.
They put the killing stroke in the forum with removing assets and then put it out of its misery when they decided that they don't need to work on the Muvizu project anymore.

The rendering machine took first priority instead of sharing that priority. They put all the users in the dog house as if to say. "Thanks for helping us when we needed you, but we are done with you now. Thanks for the time and money and for your efforts were going to kill this project but not telling you about it.

It's a shame really but I have seen it so many times with projects from games to software. To bad it couldn't go open source.

The end is near.

I still hope that they prove me wrong and that they will bring Muvizu back from the grave.

That's pretty much how I feel about all of this. I've supported Muvizu almost since day one and this is the thanks I get, the thanks ALL Muvizu users get?

Very sad indeed...

No idea of how many people have bought the paid for version of Muvizu but it seems to me that it has been sold (and is continuing to be sold) under what would appear to be false pretences.

When a customer purchases software I believe they have a reasonable expectation that the software will be developed; certainly that major bugs will be fixed. This has not happened at all since Muvizu:Pro went on sale.

I really think Digimania should consider refunding home users who have bought the software or provide some information about its future.

We all benefitted in the past from having free software but many also spent a lot of time testing and showcasing it.

I think they have met their financial obligations they supply a product that does a job. There is no law or rules that say a software creator has to continue working on their software after its shipped. They refund money to people who can't get it to work which is all anyone can expect from any company. Future renditions of muvizu play + could possibly be sold as extra addons as other companies do when they improve their product. It works with windows 7 and there is no promise anywhere guaranteeing it to work with future editions of windows.

I can understand how people can be upset but from an objective point of view they in fact provide fairly speedy support and have fixed any bugs they can. The rest of the issues are due to the way muvizu works from what I can tell and more a software limitation then a bug. There is no obligation for them to do things like maintain galleries and forums and reality is forum users are usually a very tiny percentage of actual software users (yes its always nice to have a community but its not like a mandatory thing).

The software you have purchased now will continue to work even if muvizu doesn't exist although if you want to use it 5 years from now or more you will have to keep a copy of windows 7 for it to work on as windows 8 is not backwards compatible and it will get worse as time marches on.

As for the windows 7 thing, I think people have had hardly any trouble with windows 8 (which is the modern vista in my opinion, so not exactly great) so windows 9 should work fine with Muvizu. (I've found Windows to be quite reliable at backward compatibility, I'm able to run software designed for 97 on my windows 7 machine).

However, without updates, the highest possible render resolution with Muvizu is 1080p, quite a bit more pixelated than 4k and more modern 5k displays.

I emailed Digimania earlier today about the future of Muvizu and this was the reply I got:

"For the past year we have been developing our RenderDm product. All our resources have been focused at bringing this new software to market and acting on early adopter feedback.

Whilst this has been going on we have been collecting key demographic information regarding our Muvizu user base. The information we have collected is currently being compiled ready for an internal Muvizu review scheduled for the first week in October (a year since launching Play+). Now armed with the info needed to make clear commercial decisions we will be ready to map out a future plan for Muvizu.

There are several plans being developed and we hope to release full details by the end of October."

So I guess we wait until the end of October to find out something.

Thanks for sharing Mysto. Maybe I am reading this wrong but why does that reply sound like doom? I guess we will see what Halloween will bring this year, Tricks or Treats.

Hi guys

Well doom and gloom all around but I'm quite cheerful. (FTR: I'm a paying Plus+ customer).

Firstly, Muvizu is a tool. It either works or it doesn't, and for me, it works.

On top of that I've established a relationship with Tangledbliss and some amazing things are under way for our kid's show.

Could Muvizu be better? Sure. But we could all switch to Blender as well. Everything could always be different.

If you cannot create art with Muvizu as it is, then by all means move on. If you can, then keep at it.

I think there is a long way to go before the potential of Muvizu (as is) is fully exhausted.

On another note - I have absolutely no problems running Muvizu under Windows 8 (or 8.1 which I am using now)

I had to change the render engine to version 11 (it seems to default to the lowest version of DirectX on your machine) but it runs like a dream from then onwards.

What He Said
I started using this program when it was in beta, in 2010. You couldn't move the cameras, or put textures on the characters, all kinds of restrictions, but we still had fun with it because we were only interested in what the program could do, not what it couldn't do.
I did this with the beta version, 2 years ago.

Now, apart from the breathing bug and the movement thing (just don't use the draggy method guys, use click to click, it works) I love Play, it allows me to do what I did in the beta version and more, and then the Play+ stuff on top of that is excellent - you should see what this set looks like now...

Anyway, my point is please everyone stop digging that grave until you've actually been sent the funeral invite, it's only polite. It's in need of a patch, certainly, and they're dragging their heels about it, but it's not the end of the (Muvizu) world. I waited 3 years to be able to hold a fork, so chill

this topic was about starting a new forum for muvizu and has morphed into the end of muvizu. Big Grin my post above still stands. there is no need for a new forum. this one works fine. theres a need for certain changes to the site i.e the comments system. and maybe a change of video on the featured videos once in a while Big Grin
what you read here is just peoples frustration at no information for god knows how long. i know we had the info from muvizu_chap a few weeks back but that told us nothing (no offence muvizu_chap )
myself... im still holding out for a mocap feature so i can really give them muvizu characters a good kicking and sword fighting (cant finish me avengers serial without it) oh and drinking a cup of tea.....and sitting on the ground...... and......and.....and.....Big Grin oh and chainsaw wielding....... just imagine..... the muvizu chainsaw massacre...... now im in heaven

Everyone knows that they are not a massive corporation. Let's put it this way knowing that they are alive as evidenced from mysto's reasonably speedy response when he contacted them and the fact that their turnaround time on ticket support is also pretty fast. Also knowing that our userbase is composed of like 1% forum users and 99% silent software users or something along that lines what is more important?

I have never believed in decentralizing user forums as it really doesn't work but they forums are here for people to use if they just post to them. As long as muvizu keeps its software running I think people have to accept that they just dont have the time or manpower to dedicate to a heavy social presence.

Also consider that the success or failure of the render engine (or any other project they undertake) will directly impact how successful muvizu is. I think people need to consider applauding their other efforts and not getting angry at them and upset at them for branching out to try to carve out their presence in this highly competitive area. I fully intend in the winter months to download their new product i will have time and give it a whirl. Perhaps others might consider doing the same you never know you might like it Big Grin

If your going to take part in the 3d industry in any way shape or form and want to improve and whatnot basically you have to set yourself to realize that its a constant learning process and you will need to keep up and be flexible. If you are not you wont succeed or progress and you get left behind. (steps off soapbox)

Any news on this Muvizu Chap?

I've just started a thread for features that we'd like and bugs that need fixing, so we don't have to keep posting in a thread about forums.
