... I think Rods animated trick is especially handy in a cyclic motion.

Hi Ikes

Might be not completly true. It is always possible to do no cycling animated textures. They only do what you want it will be done.

Hi Rod,

You're right, I maybe wrote it in a wrong way. I mean that your approach is easier when you need a cyclic motion instead of my approach where you need to key frame the visibility and is therefor much more labor intensive.

Hi

Pat asked me to make available animated texture used on my pigeons set.

You can download it here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2ire-Bv_13iYXY4WUNpdG5KNjA/view?usp=sharing
Original pictures used in the above video: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2ire-Bv_13iYjhGa2VSY2h4VFU/view?usp=sharing

enjoy it

Thanks Rod.. I think I understand how this works now! I see potential here for animating legs on quadrapeds, or eyes and mouths on creatures with attachments that put those features too far away from the base character to use the standard library of eyes etc. really, with this approach, anything is possible.

Even custom arm movements, like shovelling or eating.... the newer characters have mid-sections that can be made invisible. If you model a replacement mid section with multiple sets of arms in the positions you need for some action, you could use this approach to create new customized actions.

Likewise, you could make the legs invisible on a character and animate a different kind of walk. The sky is the limit!

After several days of trying to duplicate Rod's results, I'm sorry to say I've had limited luck with this. I think my process of turning still PNGS into a video is changing the size, after which the patterns don't align with the model anymore. I can see the video cycling the color and transparency, but its not at the right place on the model, which suggests the size of the animated texture doesn't match the size of the UVMap. I'll keep experimenting until I make it work, since I know its possible.

BUT.... I HAVE had luck animating quadraped legs by cycling the textures in DIRECT mode. This takes more work to animate, but it's easier to set up. So, expect a tutorial on this when I get my head above water on other non-animation projects.

I also figured out a way to animate the playing of a fiddle (in Muvizu, not Anime Studio this time) and upright bass... so, there will be a tutorial on that too.

after days of beating my head against the wall, I was finally able to duplicate Rod's results! Here are the key things I had to make happen in order to get the same results:

1) in my graphics program, I used IMAGE PROPERTIES to learn that the size of my UVmap and textures are 512x512. Made a note of that, because once I mapped to that size, I wanted to make sure the video output the same size image.

create one UVMap with all the legs or wings whatever on the same texture... then create copies of that texture with all but one position alpha'd out. You'll need one texture for each leg/wing/whatever position.

2) I used Anime Studio to create the AVI, since that's the only app I have that predictably generates AVI that works inside Muvizu as a texture.

3) in Anime Studio: FILE > PROJECT SETTINGS > CUSTOM > CONSTRAIN PROPORTIONS (unchecked) > WIDTH 512 HEIGHT 512

4) when I loaded my images into anime studio I had to rotate them 180 for some reason

5) the model must be converted to ASE for this to work. FBX doesn't handle the opacity the same way as ASE, and in this case the ASE way works very well. Import the ASE file with the settings shown in Rod's demo (Set alpha to opacity and opacity mask ... double sided)

6) apply the video as texture in Muvizu! This takes a little time to set up, but once you do, the results are highly reusable, and they'll loop forever with one application! (unlike directing or keyframing , which both require every move to be painstakingly created one move at a time!)

With Rod's approach we can finally create our own libraries of reusable actions! You could create a wagging tail + animation, and reuse it on lots of different animals! Likewise, you could make a quadraped walk cycle and reuse it on many different animals! This is potentially a game changer for anybody who wants to delve into it and develop the potential!

This is a brilliant idea Rod. An english commentry for the video would be good too if that could be possible.

I made this demo with some subtitles but during render I forgot that close captions were not allowed in youtube.
I decided to write some subtitles using youtube tools . To see them you need to select subtites icon on bottom right corner of youtube window.

the principle remains the same for a thousand different applications, and I'll be making one or more tutorials on how to use Rod's technique in various ways. I know from our discussions that you prefer tutorials in which the presenter talks to the audience, so I'll keep that in mind when I make my tutorials.

Hi guys. ever since I started visiting this site. Its blown me away how talented and generous the community is. I'm not a modeller and could never produce the amazing resources many of you can but I hope this first set I've just uploaded will be of some use to the community. If I didn't screw up the upload it should be available in the store once its moderated.

I've made the interior of an airline. using primitives and textures I made in Photoshop and Illustrator. The cabin has transparent windows and the wings are visible outside. Hope it is of some use.

good looking plane interior Witchy! I can use that! Thanks for helping to make the forum such a fun and collaborative place!

I think that one of Muvizu's marketplace advantages is its large collection of free assets. I haven't found that to be the case with the other animating software I've bought. The extra content provides new users with so many directions to go that they can hit the ground running right away! Some users might never need to create their own assets since so many common elements are already available.

Thanks for helping to build our asset base!

It's a nice model Witchy but the windows should really be more oval-shaped because currently it looks more like a train interior.
The only airliner that I know of with square windows was the early De Havilland Comet and they started crashing due to metal fatigue at the window corners. They had to replace them with round ones.
There's a good storyline for someone though

A 10 second horse walk.

Usable only with keyframing extension pack. Transparancy must be set on.

Enjoy
